ENGLAND ! ENGLAND !

"tshhhhhhhhh tshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Defi'13

What a challenge !
Well, in the 70's...there was no Channel Tunnel ... no Channel Shuttle... there was the ferry or ... the hovercraft ... and the usual question : " How was the crossing ?"
Hummm ! ... so what ???

How about a little brainstorming about England ?

For me, England means :

the White Ciffs, tea time, pubs, badminton, Kent, Canterbury, Hardicot House, Wedgewood,
an Edwardian Lady, Thomas Hardy, D.H. Lawrence, Portmeirion, mincepies, scones, marmalade, ginger,
pantomime, "Another Brick  in the Wall", the King's singers, Bob James, Beatrix Potter,
Liberty, fisher's smock, Yorkshire pudding, sherry, "Watership down", draught cider,
pubs' signs, the bell, Guy Faulkes, Kingsdown 's post office, British postage stamps, crumpets, Stilton....
I could carry on and on and on and on.......

Well, let's shake all that and see what comes out .......

FIRST RESULT with the keywords : tea time, Portmeirion and Liberty

A smart apron to prepare tea

Tea' s ready !

A picture of my Portmeirion tea set....

...transferred on to the front pocket of the apron.

And on the tray : a date, apple and walnut loaf, a recipe from Delia'scomplete cookery course.

4 oz (110g) soft margarine
6 oz (175g) soft brown sugar
2 eggs lightly beaten
4 oz (110g) wholeweat flour
4 oz (110g) plain flour
a pinch of salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 small cooking apple peeled, cored and roughly chopped
3 oz (75g) pitted dates roughly chopped
3 or 4 tablespoons milk
bake for 1 hour at 350°F (180°C)

SECOND RESULT with the keywords : British stamps, fisher's smock and Liberty again !

A fisher's smock turned into a dress.

Velvet cords and Liberty

And finally, a view you will miss if you take the shuttle : the White Cliffs !!!
By the way, are they really whiter in Kent ?

St. Margaret's bay between Dover and Deal (I recommend the tea room in the lighthouse !!)

Vaucottes near Etretat

With the ferries in the background, a swim, here, is an invitation to travel....

the sea at Kingsdown

...and here to sail ?...

the sea at Fécamp

Sound track :
Fool's Garden, Lemon-tree, Dish of the Day.
Pink Floyd, Another Brick in the wall.
Bill Evans with Marcus Miller, Bob James, London House, Push.
